3x3 CHEST TO HEAD

Think faster. Shoot cleaner.

The 3x3 Head to Chest drill builds your decision-making under speed. It trains you to control transitions between zones at a faster cadence and to recognize visual shifts with intention. The change from upper to lower zone forces you to shoot on confirmation, not just momentum.

Why this drill matters:

This drill exposes how well you see your sights under pace. Shooting three into the head zone then transitioning to three in the A-zone helps you separate deliberate fire from transitional fire. It keeps your mechanics tight while testing your ability to shift focus mid-string.

It also reveals:

  • Zone confusion when shooting under speed

  • Rushed transitions that skip confirmation

  • Disconnected grip or poor visual control

  • Split times that outpace your actual ability

If you miss during this drill, the problem is visual. This fixes it.

Set it up:

  • Distance: 5 yards

  • Target: Fusion Target head zone and A-zone

  • Rounds: 6 per rep

  • Reps: 5

  • Start Position: Compressed ready

How to run the drill:

a. Begin in compressed ready

b. On the beep, fire three rounds into the head zone

c. Immediately transition and fire three rounds into the A-zone

d. All rounds must be within their proper zones

e. Repeat for 5 total reps

What you are actually training:

  • Zone recognition under speed: You are learning to visually lock onto a small zone before transitioning cleanly to a larger one.

  • Cadence flexibility: You are building the ability to vary your shooting pace based on zone size and confirmation needs.

  • Transition control: You are reinforcing clean movement from one zone to another without losing grip or focus.

  • Split discipline: You are training yourself not to rush or delay shots based on rhythm but based on visual readiness.

  • Visual leadership: You are improving your ability to let your eyes guide the gun from one shot to the next.

Drill Tips

Check your hit pattern. If your A-zone rounds are wild, you are trying to win with speed instead of sight.

The 3x3 Head to Chest drill appears in Week 4 of the Fusion Targets 12 Week Pistol Program. It sharpens visual recognition, target acquisition, and grip retention across zone shifts. If you want to shoot smart and clean under pressure, this is your drill.
