2+2 Zone Transition

Updated: Nov 4

Twice the zones. Twice the truth.

The 2+2 Zone Transition drill forces you to earn every shot with visual clarity and movement discipline. You get two rounds in one zone, followed by two more in a second. That sounds simple, until you try to keep your cadence tight and your hits clean.

Why this drill matters:

Zone transitions are often where accuracy falls apart. The 2+2 format tests your ability to stay in control while your eyes and gun change targets. The goal is not just to move fast, but to move deliberately with proper visual confirmation before every press.

It also reveals:

  • Hesitation between target shifts

  • Premature trigger presses during transitions

  • Visual lag or misalignment

If you want consistent hits across zones, this drill shows you how.

Set it up:

  • Distance: 5-7 yards

  • Target: Upper and Lower A-Zone

  • Rounds: 4 per rep

  • Reps: 3

  • Start Position: Full Presentation

How to run the drill:

1. Start from full presentation

2. Fire 2 quick, controlled shots into the lower A-Zone.

3. Immediately transition your eyes and sights to the Upper A-Zone.

4. Fire 2 more shots at the upper A-Zone with the same cadence you used for previous shots.

5. Reset fully between reps.

What you are actually training:

  • Visual discipline across targets: You are learning to acquire and confirm sight picture before pressing the trigger during a shift.

  • Cadence control under movement: You are building timing that adjusts to transitions without rushing.

  • Grip and recoil management: You are reinforcing the ability to hold the gun stable through direction changes.

  • Mental sequencing: You are improving your ability to smoothly execute multi-step drills under pressure.

Drill Tips

If your rounds drift high during the transition, slow down and confirm the new zone before moving the gun.
