Fast, but not frantic.
5 in 2.5 challenges you to deliver five usable A-zone hits inside 2.5 seconds. It compresses presentation, recoil control, and trigger reset into a short, demanding window, a useful benchmark for practical speed.
Why this drill matters:
This is a functional speed test that balances speed and accuracy. It teaches you to present efficiently and manage recoil through short strings. If you can do five usable hits in 2.5 seconds regularly, you’ve achieved a blend of speed and control that scales to defensive contexts without being theatrical.
It also reveals:
Weak recoil management
Panic shooting under time pressure
Inconsistent grip or poor cadence
Premature trigger presses without visual confirmation
You cannot cheat this drill. The target and timer tell the truth.
Set it up:
Distance: 5 yards
Target: Fusion Target A-zone
Rounds: 5 per rep
Reps: 3
Start Position: Compressed ready
Par Time: 2.5 seconds
How to run the drill:
a. Set a par time of 2.5 seconds on your shot timer.
b. Begin at compressed ready
c. On the beep, fire five rounds into the A-zone.
d. All rounds must break before the second beep.
e. Record how many reps meet both the time and accuracy standards.

What you are actually training:
Rapid sight reacquisition: You are training to track your sights and fire each round only when visually confirmed.
Cadence control under pressure: You are developing a repeatable rhythm that holds together at high speed.
Grip pressure and endurance: You are reinforcing a firm, consistent grip that allows the gun to return naturally.
Shot discipline: You are building mental control that avoids panic when the timer applies stress.
Drill Tips
If you can hit the time but not the zone, slow down and fix the mechanical cause. Speed without hits isn't training for performance on demand.
The 5 Shots in 2.5 Seconds drill appears in Week 10 of the Fusion Targets 12 Week Pistol Program. It forces you to perform with urgency, not panic. If your mechanics are sound, this drill makes you faster. If they are not, it shows you exactly what to fix.
