A-F 3-SHOT DRILL

Updated: Nov 4

Stay clean. Stay connected. Stay moving.

The A–F 3-Shot Drill sequences engagement across six labeled zones (A through F), firing three rounds in each. It’s a vision-heavy endurance set that forces consistent target-to-target transitions and sustained mechanics under cognitive load.

Why this drill matters:

Shooting three rounds into a single zone may seem simple, but doing it across six different zones without losing control is where the value lives. This drill challenges your ability to reset, refocus, and execute a clean string in every part of the target.

It also reveals key breakdowns:

  • Poor transitions between target zones

  • Inconsistent grip or cadence from zone to zone

  • Mental slippage during long drills

It’s not about just making hits. It’s about making them everywhere , on demand.

Set it up:

  • Distance: 5 to 7 yards

  • Target: Fusion Target Alpha-hex zones

  • Rounds: 18 (3 rounds per zone)

  • Reps: 1

  • Start Position: Compressed ready

How to run the drill:

a. Begin at compressed ready with a full magazine, and 1 spare.

b. Fire 3 rounds into Zone A.

c. Move immediately to Zone B and fire 3 more rounds, continue through Zones C, D, E, firing 3 round into each Alpha-hex zone.

d.  Perform a reload, and fire the last 3 rounds into zone F.

e. Focus on consistent cadence and visual resets between zones

What you are actually training:

  • Visual recovery and reacquisition: You are building the skill to shift your visual focus and confirm sights across multiple target zones.

  • Cadence consistency: You are reinforcing an even, repeatable tempo that carries from one zone to the next.

  • Grip endurance: You are training your support hand to stay engaged and consistent through a high-round count string.

  • Target-to-target transitions: You are learning to drive the gun cleanly between zones without dragging or overshooting.

  • Mental endurance: You are developing the focus required to stay locked in over a longer drill sequence.

Drill Tips

Don’t rush the transitions. You only score points when your front sight is where it’s supposed to be.

The A–F 3 Shot Drill appears in Week 12 of the Fusion Targets 12 Week Pistol Program. It’s a mental and physical challenge that helps shooters build sustained control and precise transitions from zone to zone.
