HALF-SIZE BILL DRILL

Small target. Same demand.

The Half Size Bill Drill shrinks the standard Bill Drill down to a 5-yard fight for precision and speed. With a smaller A-zone and zero room for slop, this version forces you to earn every hit. It’s the classic speed drill, just meaner.

Why this drill matters:

Why this drill mattersThe Bill Drill is a staple for a reason, but this version removes the safety net. At half size and 5 yards, you’ll quickly see if your grip, sight tracking, and trigger control hold up under pressure.

It also reveals hidden issues fast:

  • Poor recoil control that gets masked at 7 yards

  • Inconsistent cadence when speed increases

  • Rushing the trigger press without seeing the sights

If you want to shoot fast and still hold tight groups, this drill forces the discipline that makes it happen.

Set it up:

  • Distance: 5 yards

  • Target: Half-size A-zone or Fusion Target mini A-zone

  • Rounds: 6

  • Reps: 3

  • Start Position: Holster

How to run the drill:

a. Start from the holster

b. On the beep, draw and fire 6 rounds as fast as you can while keeping all hits inside the mini A-zone

c. Score each run by time and hits. Any miss invalidates the run

d. Repeat 3 times to assess consistency

What you are actually training:

  • Recoil management under time pressure: This drill teaches you to control muzzle rise while keeping the gun in the fight during fast strings.

  • Trigger speed and discipline: You are developing the ability to move quickly without collapsing your grip or jerking the trigger.

  • Cadence awareness: The drill forces you to find your fastest clean rhythm instead of just slapping shots out of the gun.

  • Sight tracking and accountability: Each round must be visually confirmed, even when the gun is moving fast and recoil is active.

  • Consistency across runs: You are learning to repeat performance, not just get lucky on one string.

Drill Tips

Fast only counts if it’s accurate. This is where you learn how much speed your control can actually handle.

The Half Size Bill Drill appears in Week 6 of the Fusion Targets 12 Week Pistol Program. It's a high-accountability version of a classic drill that builds control, rhythm, and honest speed.
