WILLIAM DRILL

Send five fast. Make one count.

The William Drill forces you to shift from throttle-wide-open to full precision in a single run. You’ll fire five fast shots to the chest, then immediately transition to a precision head shot. It’s a straightforward drill that exposes breakdowns in grip, recoil control, and visual pacing when the pressure is on.

Why this drill matters:

Many shooters can go fast or be precise, but few can do both in the same run. This drill teaches you how to transition from aggression to accuracy without falling apart.

It also reveals breakdowns in performance:

  • Spraying during high-speed strings

  • Rushing the final head shot

  • Firing before the sights return and settle

If you’ve ever blown a critical shot after running hot, this drill helps correct that mental and visual disconnect.

Set it up:

  • Distance: 7 yards

  • Target: A-zone (chest) and head A-zone

  • Rounds: 6

  • Reps: 2

  • Start Position: Holster or compressed ready

How to run the drill:

  1. On the beep, fire 5 fast, controlled rounds into the A-zone

  2. Immediately transition to the head zone and fire 1 precise shot

  3. Reset between reps and track your time and hit quality

What you are actually training:

  • Throttle control between targets. You are learning to move from high-speed cadence to focused precision without overdriving the shot.

  • Target transition under stress. This drill helps develop fast, efficient eye movement from large to small zones while staying in control.

  • Recoil management during speed strings. The first five rounds challenge your ability to maintain grip and track sights through recoil.

  • Visual focus shift from body to head. You practice changing sight confirmation standards mid-string to match target size and accountability.

  • Mental discipline and pacing. This drill trains your mind to switch gears instantly and react with purpose instead of habit.

Drill Tips

Grip breakdown becomes obvious in this drill. If your hits drift on the body shots or your head shot misses, lock down your support hand.

The William Drill is part of Week 4 in the Fusion Targets 12 Week Pistol Program. It helps shooters build control, visual speed, and the ability to shift gears under pressure.
