PAR TIME SINGLES DRILL: DRY-FIRE

Updated: Nov 9

Let the timer set the pace.

Par Time Singles uses a strict time window for single-shot presentations. Start with a forgiving par and tighten it as proficiency increases. The drill is about teaching consistent presentation under a measurable standard.

Why this drill matters:

A timer externalizes standards. By forcing single shots inside a known window, you create repeatable pressure that trains efficient presentation, and sight confirmation under timing constraints. Par progression creates measurable improvement without guessing. Each tightened par time requires increased efficiency and refined mechanics.

It also exposes bad habits:

  • Rushing the draw or presentation

  • Pressing the trigger before sights are confirmed

  • Reaching for speed without clean mechanics

If you find yourself moving too fast or too slow without knowing why, this drill builds control you can feel.

Set it up:

  • Distance: 5 yards (dry fire only)

  • Target: Fusion Target™ A-zone

  • Rounds: 0

  • Reps: 10

  • Start Position: High compressed ready or Holster

  • Timer: Set to a 1.5-second par time

How to run the drill:

  1. Set your shot timer or phone app to a 1.5-second par time

  2. From compressed or holster, present the gun to the target and press the trigger within the par time.

  3. Repeat for 10 reps, focusing on smooth mechanics, not just beating the buzzer

What you are actually training:

  • Internal time awareness You’re learning what 1.5 seconds feels like so your performance becomes consistent even without a timer.

  • Trigger control under time constraint You are building the ability to press the trigger cleanly with urgency but not panic.

  • Presentation consistency Repeating the same starting motion under timed pressure trains smooth, repeatable draw or ready-up mechanics.

  • Dry fire discipline This drill reinforces quality over quantity in dry practice and keeps you accountable without wasting reps.

  • Visual readiness before breaking the shot You learn to wait for sight picture confirmation before pressing, even when the clock is running.

Drill Tips

Observe your sights and note where they landed and moved to during the trigger press
Decrease the time when you can consistently make the par time.

The Par Time Singles Drill is used in Week 10 of the Fusion Targets 12 Week Pistol Program to build rhythm, timing, and consistency — all without firing a round. It’s a powerful tool for getting more out of every dry fire session.
